Before Your Lesson:

  • Group lessons are open to any level and age of rider.

  • Instruction is individualized according to skill level.

  • Safety is our main priority.

  • Know that every barn operates and teaches riding differently.

  • We mainly ride & compete in the Western discipline, specifically barrel racing.

Clothes & Equipment:

  • For riders:

    • Dress appropriately for a barn and the weather.

    • Wear close toed shoes, no sandals near horses. Shoes with a heel are best to keep your foot from sliding through the stirrup.

    • Boots that cover your ankle provide extra support and keep your leg from rubbing on saddle.

    • An approved horse riding helmet will be provided. Bicycle helmets are not permitted for riding horses.

  • For horses:

    • The horses wear “tack” provided by the barn

      • This generally includes 1)bridle 2)saddle pad 3)saddle

What Will I Learn in My Lessons:

  • Just like any sport, you have to learn the fundamentals of horses and riding before you can move on. You have to understand the animals and the sport.

  • While horses and riding is a ton of fun, there are things riders should know that are important for their safety, the horse’s safety, and the safety of others riding with them.

  • Skills vary depending on the rider and the rider’s goals.

    • Balance & control

    • Stopping & steering

    • Riding aids

    • Further development of seat & hands

    • Transitions within gaits

    • Circles, figures, courses, obstacles, patterns

    • Riding with the horse “on the bit” and “in a frame”

We look forward to seeing you!

Students are welcome to ride for relaxation, for fun, or to work towards horse showing goals. Thank you for riding with us!
